i’ll try…a mural
mural design,
illustration
while petsitting, I asked if I could paint a wall in their basement gym [to drastically improve the cave-like space]. murals are good for that.
i had mostly free reign (i at least showed them the mock up, though) and the result does exactly what the intended purpose was: it makes home workouts a little more inviting and a little less gloomy.
before:
step one: a very quick and rough mock up
step two: prime this crumbling brick wall that has seen better days
step three: paint (and not take process photos? oops)
i didn’t have access to a projector so i kept the details to a minimum and did the painting in a few steps: background, plant, and words.
once i painted the background, i did a couple more mock ups for the black details (photos).
i referred to the mock up while drawing on the walls with pencil for a placement ~guideline but i wasn’t concerned with making it an exact match.
…the mock ups and the actual wall are just sisters, not twins. ;)
with the plant painted, i did yet another mock up for the words and settled on what to write.
i changed “you got this” to “f*ck it, i’ll try” intentionally.
everyone always says, “you got this” when they’re trying to encourage someone in the gym [or in life]. but in my opinion, this sets us up to feel like a disappointment when/if we fail. this feeling of disappointing ourselves or others creeps in via self doubt which makes it harder to try again.
failing is inevitable for most. and when we say, “f*ck it” before we try to do something hard, we feel mentally prepared for any end result—meaning we are less afraid of failure. when we are not afraid to fail, we will be more willing to try again and again and those who keep trying are the ones who succeed.
