i’m mal—a visual communications designer, mixed media visual artist, and storyteller; my work focuses on serving a greater good + highlighting a better way of living and being.

i see with curiosity, never follow trends or care if ‘that’s just how it’s always been done,’ and believe it’s okay to break or bend the rules if the rules don’t make sense.

  • it started in the late 80s when i would organize my world around me as much as possible. then i grew up, went to school, got a visual communications degree, and worked as a graphic designer, focusing mostly on making books and magazines and really just organizing more things [now on a page or screen].

    years later, i added ux and ui skills, worked on my creative writing and storytelling skils, and started practicing mixed media art, experimenting with whatever materials i could find.

    throughout it all, i’ve always been a daydreamer and deep thinker, direct communicator, and obsessive music fan; i love and thrive in nature, live an active life and love both the mental and physical challenges this brings, and always appreciate a good thrift find.

  • i lead with humility, not ego; i see mistakes as learning opportunities, and i will try things even if i don’t know how [i will soon].

    i’m driven by curiosity and big ideas but i love a clear plan [sometimes i forget the plan exists]. i’m orderly yet chaotic, meticulous yet experimental, and i listen more than i talk [you can’t empathize if you don’t first listen].

    my best work is work that comes about when i embrace my weirdness; the wild ideas and patterns and probably not doing something just because everyone everyone else is doing it.
