i’m mal—a communications designer and mixed media visual artist with a focus on storytelling and creative work that serves a greater good; throughout much of my work, i see with curiosity and aim to find the balance between order and chaos.

more about me [short version]
bachelor of visual communications degree, ~15 years of experience as a designer [but really i’ve been designing everything within my life straight out of the womb], ux and ui design certificate holder, mixed media artist, storyteller/writer, daydreamer and deep thinker, direct and honest communicator, obsessive music fan, thrives in nature and cares too much about the world we live in, and can often be found thrifting and/or wearing something secondhand.

i’ve never been one to do something just because everyone else is doing it. there’s no such thing as ‘this is how it’s done.’ i lead with humility, not ego; i see mistakes as learning opportunities, and i try things even if i don’t know how.
i’m driven by curiosity [curiosity will never leave me stranded without ideas] and appreciate direct and honest communication with a clear plan.
that’s probably the designer in me talking. the artist in me sometimes forgets the plan exists and is blind to any rule. being both makes things interesting.
…the system:
i operate with what i call controlled chaos: i’m meticulous yet chaotic, orderly but experimental, and autistic and adhd.
i didn’t know about this for the longest time so i did my best to hide it [to fit in] but that never led me towards my best or most authentic or creative work so… nah, we’re not doing that anymore.
weird is in, wild ideas that come out of left field are in, seeing patterns most miss is great, and not fitting in is actually what’s cool.
