i’m mal, a visual communications designer, mixed media artist, and storyteller who aims to create things for good.
as a curious thinker, i often explore sustainable and healthy ways of living + being, seek to find balance between order + chaos (the intersection of design + art), and like to bend rules when the rules don’t makes sense.

BACKGROUND STORY
i’ve always been a daydreamer exploding with ideas, a deep methodical yet creative thinker, and always appreciate simple things and anything that’s clear and direct.
growing up, i organized my world around me as much as possible to make life easier… so naturally i acquired a visual communications degree and quickly grew to love longer layout projects such as designing books + mags.
eventually i added some user experience skills to the bag, started practicing my creative writing and storytelling skills, and began messing around with mixed media art.
all this to say, i don’t like limits when it comes to creative work; i simply want to put all the creative skills i’ve acquired over the years towards any creative project that comes my way.
HOW I WORK
lead with humility, not ego
curiosity first; there is no such thing as ‘this is how it’s done’
mistakes are mostly just happy accidents
chaotic + experimental is fun but having structure and a clear plan helps
obsessed with details but never forgets the big picture
the weirder, the better; authenticity is king and being uncool is the only way to be cool
