COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
at one point, I noticed that working on one thing together was not that common among independent visual artists——and after working within a creative team in-house for many years and a few other unrelated work experiences, I missed projects I got to build With people.

NUIT BLANCHE YXE
RIVERSDALE ART WALK CANVAS
A COLOURING BOOK FOR A BETTER WORLD
Most things are better when different minds, skills, styles, ideas, and even disciplines come together. So one day I [very casually] started Art Collective in Saskatoon (@artcollective.yxe).
I didn’t have a goal or plan; just a loose vision + the desire to make stuff with people. It’s not a business or club; the closest thing I’d call it is a group of people coming together to make things for a better good and never for profit.
For inquires or potential collaborative projects you’d like to discuss, please contact me at malcloke.studio@gmail.com.
A big driving reason I wanted to start this was to create more real world opportunities for a wider net of creatives, especially those more unknown. If nothing else, this gives them the confidence to keep building their own body of work.
The scarcity mindset among independent artists is rampant + when you’re just starting out, it can be intimidating. this brings a welcome and much more inclusive approach: community over competition.
As an artist myself, I know how consuming it can be to make all this work to apply for various opportunities we may or may not get. The world doesn’t need more exploitative artist contests masked as experience and exposure when in reality a very small % of artists who do them see any benefit.
That said, projects here are always:
‘one and done’ [each project is completed before the day is over]
planning is optional but not required by those who want to contribute
there is no necessary time commitment to each project [it’s a ‘do + give what you can’ situation]
open to anyone of any skill + experience level. if it’s public participation literally anyone can join. if it’s a smaller project, advanced sign up is required + space may be limited but is still generally first come, first serve
I plan the projects on my end a little but it is also helping me to trust the process when i can’t control the entire outcome
the bottom line
This is meant to be fun, to learn to work together more, to learn to let go of full creative control, and to give art back to the community in some way.
