Below are a few logos and marks for a variety of projects. These aren’t full brand identities—many of these didn’t have the budget for it at the time and others were for a specific marketing purpose (merch, event, etc).

I often create logos first in only black to establish an overall concept. The helps remove any subjective opinions towards colour as well as to ensure it works as one colour.
Designing in one colour is harder than having the ability to use multiple colours—which goes back to my belief that the simpler something is, the harder it was to create.
For Saskatoon Pole and Dance Studio, we made two versions of the logo—a decorative, busier version and then a text only version. Either are considered a logo and either can be used as a logo on any given marketing piece without using the other.
Since they both use the same typography style and both are used enough, it doesn’t decrease any brand recognition. For their business cards, I used one version for the general cards and one version for the owner’s cards (on black or white, respectively) and I thought this was a good way to use both in cases where either logo version seemed to work.
