“The People Behind The Places” is a 46 page travel e-zine for Nouvelle Vague.

creative/art direction and editorial design as part of the NV team of volunteers

The zine features three articles written by Winnie Stubbs about three different unique creative spaces and the kind of people that might occupy them in south Sri Lanka.

Photographs were supplied by various contributors on the NV team and credited throughout the project.

NV was an online indie surf and lifestyle ‘zine and a group of like-minded volunteers just wanting to share stories about surf and travel.

The cover photo was selected because it fit with the title (the people behind the places) and was general enough to fit all three places without being too specific to any one of them.

The overall composition portrays an explorative nature which would generally appeal to the audience as well as capture the purpose of this specific ‘zine.

a note from the writer of the project:

“I wrote most of this just before the fabric of our worlds changed forever, when travel was (for the privileged few) possible and even expected. Although reading back through makes me ache with nostalgia for what was, it also reminds me of how fortunate we are to have experienced this connected, creative world.

While the world is in a relative lockdown and trips to Sri Lanka are a distant dream, there’s magic in knowing that these special spaces are waiting.”
