all part of the show

various sizes, mixed media

a collection of seven newer pieces adapted from some of my earliest art styles, parts of my earliest art work, or my love for layout design.

“the right time”

acrylic on upcycled canvas / 16x20 in

sometimes things just have a way of coming back around and all together.

i drew variations of this simple, very abstract plant years ago; i painted it a little on some stuff but it was so simple and flat that it felt like something was missing.

i came back to it recently and, now being a bit more experienced as an artist, i played with layering, mixing acrylics with water, and working quickly to show more depth and texture and i think this made such a simple, abstract illustration a lot more visually interesting.

collages of words and photos from thrifted books and magazines and a few sketches, on a wood 8x8 in frame

“all part of the show”

collage on paper on an uncycled wood frame / 11x14 in

a poster design and layout work the way people did composition work pre-computers.

i drew illustrations on paper (the red part is from an old acrylic painting), cut them all out, arranged it all on a blank poster, and glued it all together.

“take me outside / to the beach”

two collages on paper in a picture frame / 16x18 in & 11x14 in

(same strategy and concept as above)

i found a big (24x24 in) very stable wood sign at a thrift store and thought it would be good for signage for my pop up table at a couple summer markets. i’ve spent my entire career designing banners on the computer for markets and trade shows. this just seemed like more fun.

(and since i used all materials i already ad, it was a great way to be a little more sustainable).

the background is a mix of whatever i had on hand—mostly things (or parts of things) i drew or painted, photographs i took, and a few images i cut out from old magazines. the foreground was hand painted lettering with acrylic ink.

i worked quick, i cared very little about anything being perfect or even straight (who cares?), and just like that, i had a market sign for about $10.

so i was right. it was fun…and that basically sums up this entire collection.
